Cat Motifs ~ Niggy the Muse

Cats’  little round heads have graced samplers from the beginnings of sampler history.  Lately,  I’ve been noticing how many stitchers  have cats on their blogs.  They’re natural companions for artists.

My cats are a favorite motif.  Our four young cats are all calm and affectionate.   They like to sit nearby when I’m working, and I love their curious little personalities.  My boon companion though,  is Nigella Shadow, who we call Niggy.  She’s a beautiful Tortiseshell with furzy white eyebrows and a soulful gaze.   I like to put a tiny cat somewhere into the pieces I do for  my family or myself.   Cats represent home, hearth and devotion.

  1. I have several kitties myself and your Niggy looks a lot like my Willow. We got her when an elderly couple at our church found her and then became ill and couldn’t keep her. They said she was fixed and had all her shots but if they couldn’t find her a home she would have to be put to sleep because they couldn’t care for her. I already had 6 cats but couldn’t imagine such a beautiful soul being put to sleep so she came to live with us. And we are blessed. Thank you for sharing all your patterns and the pics of your beautiful babies!
