Inspiration Strikes!

I was sitting in church this Father’s Day morning, listening to the readings  and quietly praying for the generations of Fathers in our families.   I was thinking of my great-great paternal Grandfather, who was a whaling boat captain, and an image of a nautical sampler floated into my mind.  The Lector started to read Psalm 107, so I shook off the image and followed the scripture in my Magnificat.

Then, BAM!  as Emeril says, there was the verse for the sampler!

“They who sailed the sea in ships,

trading on the deep waters,

these saw the works of the Lord

and His wonders in the abyss.”

Inspiration strikes when it strikes!   A gift from the great great Grandfather I never knew, but whose ship’s logs and drawings I saw as a Whaling Boat Log 1800s New Bedford, MA child?   Mere coincidence?
