The world will end, not with a bang, but a cucumber …
The world isn’t currently ending, and neither are the cucumbers! We’ve given up on our tomatoes due to the blight. The cucumbers however, are beyond thriving. We spent hours yesterday cutting them into 1/4″ slices. Now there are two huge, covered crocks of them in the kitchen, soaking in water, and more waiting in the garden. The cats are watching carefully from safe distances as all activities involving water are suspect!
The insides of cucumber slices are quite beautiful, rather like Quaker medallions. Hmmmmmm! And, I love the colors. And, I have an unfinished garden sampler pattern which is going to get some cucumber slices tonight!
We have to buy some Mrs. Wages’ Pickling Lime and Mixed Pickling Spices later today and make up some Old South Cucumber Lime Pickles. For that recipe go to: http://www.mrswages.com I also want to check The Pioneer Woman’s excellent blog for pickle relish recipes. She’s linked on my sidebar. My Mother-in-Law made absolutely wonderful pickles, which my hubby still pines for. So, I’ll also check through the recipes she gave me. Her recipes tend to read like mine … a pinch of this, add a little of that, sort of seat-of-the-pantsy!
